Alabama-born comedy sensation Dusty Slay proves you can take the boy out of the trailer park, but you can’t take the trailer park out of the boy. Catch this rising comic star September 19th in the Island Showroom as he brings his trademark “We’re having a good time” attitude to Harris, Mich.
If You Know, You Know
Trucker hat? Check. Oversized glasses? Check. Flannel shirt? Check. Long hair, mustache and beard? Check.
There’s no mistaking Dusty Slay’s unique look and distinct comedy delivery. His dry yet hilarious observations on life have won him audiences around the country, dating back to his school days as a class clown in a working-class neighborhood.
Dusty and his older sisters grew up in a trailer, raised by a single working mom. He learned to hustle early on and worked a variety of jobs in his younger years, including as a pesticide salesman and restaurant server.
In his early twenties, he relocated to Charleston, SC, and joined the improv scene there. After a number of failed gigs—hampered by his growing alcoholism—he quit. In 2008, he got sober and decided to try again. Luckily for us, he found his voice and has been performing ever since.
Slay moved to New York City and then Nashville, cutting his teeth on diverse crowds and refining his signature style. His breakthrough came in 2018 at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival, where he was discovered by Hollywood tastemakers.
Since then, he’s made several appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live! He’s released specials on both Comedy Central and Netflix, and in 2019 became the youngest comedian ever to headline the Grand Ole Opry.
Having a Good Time
Dusty Slay’s appeal runs wide. His smooth baritone voice, everyman sensibility and wholesome approach to comedy have resulted in a steadily growing audience, including over half a million TikTok followers.
His stand-up shows feel more like sitting on a porch and sipping sweet tea with a friend than a polished, predictable routine. Punchlines land subtly rather than in your face and rely on wry wit rather than cynicism or shock value.
Dusty leans into the absurdity found in ordinary life in a deceptively simplistic way. Just when you’ve forgotten the joke from 10 minutes ago, he revives it with a fresh twist.
Blue collar life, marriage, small town culture—it’s all here. Check out some of Dusty’s finest moments:
- Leaving Food in Your Car, New Car Features (Tonight Show)
- Working After Your Two Weeks’ Notice Is a Sweet Gig
- The Trash Ditch
