Future LPGA Stars Return to Sweetgrass for the 15th Annual Island Resort Championship

2026 Island Resort Championship

One of the Island’s signature summer traditions returns to Michigan’s scenic Upper Peninsula this June as the 15th annual Island Resort Championship comes back to Sweetgrass Golf Club from June 26-28, 2026.

As a premier stop on the Epson Tour, the official qualifying tour for the LPGA, the Island Resort Championship gives guests and spectators the chance to watch some of the world’s top rising women golfers compete up close while enjoying one of the Midwest’s premier golf, casino and entertainment resort destinations. Whether you are a longtime golf fan, follow women’s sports, or are simply looking for a fun summer event at the Island, this tournament offers a great reason to visit.

This year’s event will feature 144 rising women golfers competing for a $225,000 purse and the opportunity to move one step closer to the LPGA Tour. The tournament winner will receive a $33,750 winner’s check, a championship trophy, and one of the most meaningful traditions in the event, a tribal honor quilt handmade by an elder of the Hannahville Indian Community.

The Island Resort Championship also serves as the final stop in this year’s Pure Michigan Cup, a bonus competition connecting the Epson Tour’s three Michigan tournaments. Through a partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Cup awards an additional $20,000 in bonus money to the top three point earners across the three-event stretch. A special trophy ceremony at Sweetgrass will conclude the Michigan series.

For fans, one of the most exciting parts of the weekend is the opportunity to see future LPGA players before they reach the sport’s highest level. The strength of the Epson Tour is already showing at the next stage. Melanie Green, winner of the 2025 Island Resort Championship, is now competing as an LPGA rookie and has already posted two top-10 finishes this season. It is a reminder that the talent competing at Sweetgrass is the kind of talent fans will be hearing much more about in the years ahead.

The Island Resort Championship is about more than tournament golf. Over the years, it has grown into a summer event that brings together guests, families, volunteers, employees, and the local community in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Spectators can follow players throughout the course, relax in the bleachers near the 9th and 18th greens, or settle in at the center of the course to enjoy the action. After their rounds, players are often available for autographs and photos, making the experience especially memorable for younger fans.

Affordable food and beverages will be available throughout the course, including crowd favorites like burgers and brats for just $3. Tickets are $10 for adults, and children 17 and under are free with an adult. Tickets are on sale now through local nonprofit organizations, with proceeds going to the charities that sell them.

From headline golf competition to family-friendly fun, the Island Resort Championship is another great way to enjoy the total experience at the Island this summer. Stay where you play, enjoy great dining, and take in one of the season’s most exciting events at Sweetgrass Golf Club.
