National Cheeseburger Day

When you woke up this morning, we’ll be willing to bet that you didn’t even know that today was a holiday? Relax! It’s not sweetest day yet… but you might want to mark it on your calendar now that you’re thinking about! Anyhow, getting back on track… today (September 18th) is “National Cheeseburger Day”.  In celebration, we’ll look at the history of the cheeseburger, treat you to photos of our very special “build your own burger” made in observance of this holiday and offer you a few suggestions of how you too can celebrate “National Cheeseburger Day”.
Do You Want Cheese With That?
According to “The Birth of the Cheeseburger” by Chef John Mitzewich, “most credit Lionel Sternberger, who in the year 1924, at the tender age of 16, decided to slap a slice of American cheese onto a cooking hamburger at DSC_0187his father’s Pasadena, California sandwich shop, the Rite Spot. He liked it, and so did his dad, thus the cheeseburger was born”.
This concept was obviously a winner as eight decades later, the cheeseburger remains to be one of more popular food staple in the United States. However, like most things over time, the cheeseburger has evolved and for the most part, is only limited by the imagination of the person ordering it!
In fact, the 5 Bridges Pub offers a wide variety of options for its “Build Your Own Burger Cheeseburger” concept. Guests not only have the option of ordering a “classic” cheeseburger with a slice of American cheese, but can also have “alternative” cheeses added to the mix!
