Rock to the Point of Know Return: KANSAS Arrives for Two Epic Nights

Feel the powerful sounds of rock and roll in your very soul as the Island Resort & Casino welcomes the legendary rock band KANSAS. They will perform in the Island Showroom in Michigan for two shows, on Friday, February 27, and Saturday, February 28, 2026.

KANSAS has defined progressive rock for five decades. Through changing band members and 16 studio albums, their powerful hits have endured the test of time.

Songs for America and Beyond

KANSAS is widely considered one of America’s most influential classic rock bands. Formed as a garage band in Topeka, Kansas, in 1973, it didn’t take long for people to take notice as their 1974 eponymous debut album launched them into rock history.

In 1976, their fourth album, Leftoverture, shot to 5th on the Billboard chart with their massive hit “Carry on Wayward Son.” A year later, Point of Know Return made it to 4th, carried by their hit “Dust in the Wind.” These two albums alone cemented them as legendary status with their sweeping, symphonic sounds and poetic lyrics.

The band has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, and they dominated the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks through the ’70s and ’80s. The popularity of KANSAS wasn’t exclusive to the United States, either. They played to sold-out arenas and stadiums across North America, Europe and Asia.

Today, KANSAS remains a fixture in the rock music scene. “Carry on Wayward Son” continues to be one of the top five most-played songs in the classic rock genre.

Same Old Song(s) Like You’ve Never Heard Them Before

The band’s most iconic song, “Dust in the Wind,” started as a simple fingerpicking exercise for songwriter Kerry Livgren. When his wife encouraged him to make it into a single, he added lyrics inspired by a Native American poetry anthology he was reading. Today, it has been played over 3 million times on the radio.

Their other anthem, “Carry On Wayward Son,” was the last song written for the Leftoverture album. It was a last-minute addition that became their first major hit. Kerry Livgren called the song an “autobiographical” part of his “spiritual sojourn.”

While Livgren has since moved on to focus on his Christian music, original members Richard Williams (guitar) and Phil Ehart (drums) continue to play with the passion and energy as they did in the ’70s. Currently, Eric Holmquist will be on drums as Phil Ehart recovers from a heart attack.

The band, which is currently comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, guitarist Scott Bernard, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, bassist/vocalist Dan McGowan, original guitarist Richard Williams, and original drummer Phil Ehart. Eric Holmquist performs on drums while Phil Ehart continues to recover from a major heart attack. KANSAS continues to energize audiences with their powerful live performances
