An American Success Story
Sparks flew when Chris Kroeze discovered the guitar at an early age. Seeing how enamored the youngster was, his parents got him his own for his sixth birthday. His dad even put stickers on the fretboard to help him learn to play.
Soon, Kroeze was dividing his time between strumming his prized possession and riding his bike around listening to Chuck Berry tapes. By age 13, he had his first taste of fame in the high school talent show, and shortly after, he began performing in local bars.
After high school, Kroeze left his small hometown of Barron, Wisconsin, and moved to Minneapolis, where he studied audio engineering at a local college. In 2014, the proud residents of Barron held a fundraiser and raised enough money to send Kroeze to Nashville. Armed with everything he had learned and a good amount of faith, he launched his musical career.
But it was the call from the producers of The Voice in 2018 that changed everything. Kroeze joined the cast of season 15 and, under the mentorship of Blake Shelton, became the season’s runner-up.
The original song he sang on the show, “Human,” quickly became a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and Kroeze became the most-streamed contestant in the show’s history.
Crushin’ Cans (and Everything Else)
Losing The Voice didn’t slow Kroeze down. As The Voice coach and Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine predicted, “his potential is limitless.” Chris went on to record his debut self-titled record and continued to play close to 200 shows a year, including many concerts for U.S. armed services members—plus shows at the local bars and pop-ups where he began his career.
Kroeze’s sound lies somewhere between country, Americana and rock. He’s recorded and performed songs from artists as diverse as Ozzy Osbourne, The Beatles and The SteelDrivers. His unique and earnest voice has won him fans around the world.
